Our Trip to Canada

After our late night on the 8th, some of us slept in a little on the morning of the 9th, although checkout time wasn’t exactly ideal. The shower was very wishy-washy with the temperatures; it scorched many of us with extreme hot bursts of water. The breakfast was over by the time we woke up, so we were left with empty stomachs on the way out of the area. This, in addition to the difficulty finding lodging the previous night, and coupled with the lack of sleep, put everyone in a suicidal, bitchy mood.
Julie was put in the driver’s seat this time, and we made our way to the SK/AB border, where a town called Lloydminster happens to be. We stopped for Quizno’s there, once again, and with some more hot tempers and complaining, skipped out of town quite quickly. We proceeded to head towards Edmonton.
It had been a while, so once again, we needed to relieve ourselves. We saw a sign for a rest stop, but the sign was so to the actual exit that Julie missed the turn. Instead we had to stop at Ranfurly, Alberta, which actually turned out to be quite cool. There was an old schoolhouse turned into a museum, and some interesting photo opportunities outside.
Once we were done there, we stopped at a little place called Mundare, which is very close to the town called Andrew. We bought some more Red Creme Soda there, and were on our way, this time with me in the driver’s seat again. We scurried into Edmonton to look for lodging, but ended up on a sketchy side of town. There, we found the Sands Inn, a smoke-infested, run-down questionable place to stay. We decided against it, and I then called my Midtown Madness 2 Central friend Geoff who also lives in Edmonton. He gave us a few more places to look for, but they were all above our price range.
We eventually found the Super 8 in Edmonton, with two beds and a “cot” for Mandy. The cot was actually just a very stiff mattress on the floor with one blanket, so Ruth asked for more blankets to keep her warm and comfortable. The housekeeping people said they didn’t have any more blankets…
While trying to find the hotel we all had become very hungry, and we were all cranky because of it. I called Geoff once again and he gave us the name of a pizza place near by, Panago. We owe Geoff for that suggestion; it was quite possibly one of the best pizzas we had ever had. The guy who made it was awesome too, Hussein was his name, and he was very nice and told us a lot about the area.
After our amazing dinner, we went back to the hotel for a good night’s rest, but before we could actually get to bed, Ruth called housekeeping about blankets again, and we found out that the first housekeeping girl lied and they actually had a few blankets left. Shortly after the call, Ruth was in the shower and we had a knock on the door… and standing in front of us was quite possibly the most pissed off girl I had ever seen, carrying with her towels and two nice, warm blankets. She said quite bluntly, “These are all the blankets we have. There are two here.” She practically shoved them in my face and promptly left.
We went to bed with a very bad impression of Edmonton because of this girl…
