June 16th, 2008: Day 11

Julie and Mandy preparing themselves

We awoke from our rest on the morning of the 16th and had to once again bring Don downtown for a meet with his placement company, so we all prepared for the day, including the girls (right).

Fort Edmonton Sign

After preparing, we dropped Don off at his destination and decided to head towards the Fort Edmonton Park, which we thought was just a big park to walk around, when in fact it is a large set of streets, each street representing a year in time in Edmonton and surrounding areas. It cost a good amount of money to get in, though, plus it closed in half an hour by the time we got there, so we just looked around in the gift store for a while and bought a few souvenirs.

We left the park when Don called us and picked him up from downtown after he was done taking some pictures of Elm trees he found in a park. We left the area and drove back toward the lodge in Leduc, but on our way we stopped in a park called “Gateway Park” where they had the original Oil Derrick that struck oil set-up on display, and of course, Julie and I could not resist the photo opportunities that this provided. I took so many photos of it that they won’t all fit well on this page, so see the link at the bottom of these six for more pictures of it.

More pictures of Leduc #1

When we were done using up our memory cards, we headed back towards Leduc, and stopped at a Safeway to get a bite to eat. Ruth picked out a beautiful huge Lumberjack sub sandwich and some chips and I went to work, promptly filling myself with more food than I could handle. We went back to the lodge and enjoyed another night’s sleep.
