June 11th, 2008: Day 6

On the morning of June 11th, we woke up early and ate a beautiful breakfast in the lobby of Holiday Inn, including bacon, eggs, cereal, fruit, bagels—it was the best breakfast of all the lodges so far.

After breakfast, we took a nice dip in the pool, and experimented with different ways of going down the water slide, which was a big corkscrew. Afterwards, Julie went to turn on the hot tub, but instead hit the “emergency stop” button in another one of her blond moments. After re-enabling the button and taking a dip, we headed back up to the room.

Since this hotel had an ethernet port, I hooked up the XBOX 360 to it and got on live, only to discover that Tim (Julie’s brother) had been on live 1 minute ago. I sent him a text message to come back, and so he did. We happily played Halo 3 for the next hour with him, it felt quite relieving to have a taste of home.

Once Tim had to leave for his CLC Orientation, we decided to watch a movie on the XBOX, so Julie pulled out Resident Evil: Extinction, and we watched that… or should I say, I watched it, since both Julie and Mandy fell asleep partway through.

Geoff sent us a text message after the movie inviting us to his house later in the day, so we set upon going there, so we all piled in the car and we all became very hungry so we then went to a little strip mall where there was an “Extreme Pita” and a Subway. Julie opted for Extreme Pita, and Mandy and myself got sub sandwiches from the tried-and-true Subway. Julie didn’t really care for the Extreme Pita, and she said the guy who made her meal didn’t know what he was doing (figures).

We headed out to Geoff’s house, and on the way, we saw a homeless guy with a sign asking for food; we had leftover Subway in the car along with some apples so we turned around and handed it to him. This gave him a very big smile and made us feel quite good and helpful.

We arrived at Geoff’s house and met with his mom and brother and talked about jobs, the area, healthcare, etc for quite a while until Geoff wanted to show me his Fiat that he had outside.

Once I had thoroughly inspected his car, we decided it was getting late and we should go home. We said our temporary goodbyes and had a picture taken by Julie.
